At our own pace, we discover this sublime region of Solukhumbu. After our memorable flight over terraced fields, we arrive in this region, where the welcome is very warm. A very good one introduction to a journey full of encounters! We will trade with different ethnic groups and share their respective ones customs in full respect of the daily life of our guests. Rustic accommodation, oscillating between teahouses and welcome in the family, and thus favoring the local economy and exchanges with the Nepalese. A unique journey, to take the pulse of a fascinating people.

  • 01Namaste, welcome to Nepal Your arrival at Kathmandu airport where you will be met by an AIT representative and transfer to your hotel. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you to our office for a briefing.

  • 02Sightseeing of Kathmandu & food safari Culture and food are on the program today! Cuisine is culture; it is part of the customs, history and traditions of a people. You will alternate between visits to monuments, local markets and sampling the favorite snacks of local people.

    Today, a guide who will introduce you not only to the history of the monuments but also the city’s past will accompany you.

    Visit Pashupatinath Temple, the most important Hindu temple in Nepal consecrated to Lord Shiva. The original core dates back to the 6th century AD and is known for its architecture in the shape of a pagoda. This place, also known as Little Benares, is located along the Bagmati River; here every day funeral ceremonies take place with the corpses being burned on pyres before the scattering of the ashes on the Bagmati River.

    Afterwards visit the huge Boudhanath Stupa, the most important Buddhist cultural center in Kathmandu since numerous refugees from Tibet have stopped there, creating more than 50 Gompas (Tibetan monasteries). Since 1979, Boudhanath has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
    In the afternoon, visit another important Buddhist center, the stupa of Swayambhunath, known as the monkey temple because of the high number of monkeys living inside. This ancient religious complex is located atop a hill to the west in the Kathmandu Valley, and from here there are beautiful views of the city and the valley that surrounds it.

  • 03Flight to Phaplu * - Gama Very early 30 minutes flight to Phaplu, over hills carved by thousands of terraced fields.
    Picturesque landing on the small site of the Phaplu plateau, leaning against the
    mountain at 2450 m of altitude. After a comforting “chai” we cross the village and go down to the town of Salleri, administrative capital of SoluKhumbu. Then we continue to Garma (2420 m).

    * We try to limit internal flights as much as possible; unfortunately the travel times are very long in Nepal. To offset the carbon footprint of your flights, we are committed to financing the tree planting.

  • 04Trekking to Mulkharka Ascent to Phurlung La (2985 m) from where we discover a beautiful panorama
    of the Himalayan range, if the sky is clear. Descent to the small village of
    Mulkharka (2900m).

  • 05Trekking to the monastery of Mera We have to climb 200m to reach the forest and follow the Ratnaqi Danda ridge to a viewpoint at 3300 m. A path descends to the hamlets of Mera and Gumne dominated by the Orgyen Chöling monastery of the Nyingma School with its 55 young monks.

    We will settle in the monastery guesthouse (2800 m).

  • 06Trekking to Kastap The trail goes around a shoulder before joining the Kanku Khola valley. We enter the Rai country. The Rai are one of the oldest ethnic groups in Nepal, where they came from the east;they speak a Tibetan-Burmese language. Then steep descent to the village of Kastap (1900m).

  • 07Trekking to Nagiyang Departure for Nagiyang, a small village at an altitude of 1,500 m whose houses are built scattered around the small-cultivated terraces on the opposite bank of the Kanku Khola. During the trip visit the large Losku School. We continue along steep slopes through the different terraced cultures to the Nagiyang School (1850m).

  • 08Trekking to Chialsa The path continues its ascent through a beautiful forest until it reaches a ridge at 2500 m; we find the Sherpa country. The trail remains in height before descending to the village of Chialsa (2780 m).

  • 09Trekking to Phera In the morning visit to the school of Chialsa and its boarding school which welcomes almost 200 children, and to various children monasteries scattered around the village. Staying on the side of the hill, we follow a path in the woods and then climb to Chiwong Monastery (2950m) which dominates the entire valley and where every autumn the great Manu Rimdu ceremony. Decent and stop at the village of Phera (2600 m) surrounded by numerous
    Orchards.

  • 10Trek to Mopung From Phera we go down to the river and then go up the Jumbesi Khola valley to reach the village of Mopung (2900 m). In the afternoon, you can take a trail on the side of the mountain that offers an extraordinary view of the great monastery of Thupten Chöling.

  • 11Excursion to Phugmoche monastery Excursion to Phugmoche Monastery (rebuilt after the 2015 earthquake), then hike to Thupten Chöling monastery, where hundreds of small buildings house more than 500 monks and nuns. It’s the largest monastery of Solukhumbu. Afterwards, we return to Mopung.

  • 12Trekking to Phaplu After 1 hour of descent on foot we cross the village of Junbesi with its gompas (Buddhist temples) and houses with carved wooden windows. The trail climbs up to the Phurteng hamlet from where we can see the tip of Everest to the horizon. After a descent into the woods, a short climb to the Ringmu for lunch. We reach Phaplu in the afternoon where we settle in a lodge (2500 m).

  • 13Traveling to the capital Wake up early to take the road to Kathmandu. It takes 9 hours to travel through mountains and valleys to reach the capital.
