The Thame trekking has been designed to offer a perfect balance of trekking and sightseeing, adventure and discovery. Thame, located at the bottom of the Khumbu Valley, is renowned and appreciated for its authenticity. It is also known to be the home of many famous Sherpas of world renown. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, the very first to have climbed Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary or Ang Rita Sherpa, known as the snow leopard and Apa Sherpa: a record holder with nineteen Everest ascents.

 You have the possibility to stay in the luxury lodges of the Yeti Mountain chain in Phakding, Namche, Thame, Monjo and Lukla.

Itinerary

  • 01Namaste, welcome to Nepal Your arrival at Kathmandu airport where you will be met by an AIT representative and transfer to your hotel. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you to our office for a briefing.

  • 02Flight to Lukla & trek to Phakding 3 hours Fly to Lukla (2,800 meters). Beginning the trek, the trail descends to Chablung, where it crosses a stream and then continues north through a short stretch of forest. Then, you descend to the Kangru Khola River at the mouth of the valley. Beyond the river, the trail climbs slightly, then circumvents a ridge to Ghat (2,550 meters) on the banks of the Dudh Kosi. Then you will reach Phakding (2800 meters).

  • 03Trek to Namche Bazaar 6 hours The trail continues north into the Dudh Kosi valley, about 100 meters above the west bank of the river. After crossing a small stream, the trail climbs up the hill to reach the waterfall of Benkar (2,700 meters) and then Chomoa. In this section of the trail, villages alternate with lush forests of rhododendrons, magnolias and giant fir trees. Continue to Monjo, where the trail enters the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park, crosses the Dudh Kosi and follows its western bank. You will come across the village of Jorsale at 2850 meters and then continue along the river and valley, from where you can see Everest beyond Nuptse Ridge. Arrival at Namche (3440 meters).

  • 04Namche Bazaar During this acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar, you can explore the surroundings.

  • 05Trek to Thame 4 hours Leaving Namche Bazaar, the trail passes through pine and rhododendron forests and many villages. This region of Nepal, outside the valley that leads to Everest, is less frequented by trekkers, so it guarantees a strong authenticity.
    You may have the chance to see the impressive wildlife of the region: musk deer, pheasants, the Himalayan tahr ... Possibility to end the day by visiting the gompa above Thame.

  • 06Excursion to Sumdur Lookout Point You will walk along the ridge to reach the Sumdur lookout point from where you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the Tibetan border (Nangpa La valley, Pasang Lhamu peak, Cho Oyu at 8,201m) and many peaks between 6,000 and 7,000 meters.

  • 07Trek to Kongde 7 hours After breakfast, you will leave for a day's trek through rhododendron, bamboo and pine forests. Arrive in front of the glacier that descends from the northeast wall of Kongde Ri and enjoy the view of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. The lodge is located at 4250 meters above sea level and is the highest hotel in the world.

  • 08Excursion to Farak Ri 5 hours Wake up early this morning if you want to hike to Farak Ri (5000 m) to enjoy the panoramic views of the Khumbu Valley, including four of the six highest peaks in the world: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. The rest of the day is free to relax or take further walks in the area.

  • 09Trek to Phakding After breakfast, you will descend to Phakding while enjoying the breathtaking view of the Dudh Koshi valley, Mount Thamserku (6623m) and the Kangtega range. Through the forest, you will reach the village of Toktok and then Phakding.

  • 10Trek to Lukla 3 hours Last efforts with a very steep climb. Time to say goodbye to the team before spending the last night on the mountain.

  • 11Fly to Kathmandu Fly to Kathmandu and the rest of the day will be at leisure for final shopping ot for visiting the city.

    Options: If you want to do more than taste Nepali food, you can participate in a cooking course classes by an NGO who will prepare traditional Nepalese dishes and at the same time fund the training of women in the hospitality industry.

    For fair shopping, we can recommend some places where women make all products here in Nepal and all profits are reinvested in women’s community projects.
